Sri Lanka Customs Digitisation: ASYCUDA World and What Traders Must Know
Sri Lanka Customs has accelerated its ASYCUDA World rollout. Learn what the new digital declaration requirements mean for your imports and exports.
The Shift to Full Electronic Customs
Sri Lanka Customs has mandated that all import and export declarations be filed exclusively through ASYCUDA World (Automated System for Customs Data), eliminating the last traces of paper-based processing. While the system has been in place for years, recent enhancements now include mandatory pre-arrival lodgement, digital risk profiling, and an integrated tariff classification engine.
Pre-Arrival Declarations Are Now Compulsory
Effective from mid-2026, importers must lodge their Customs Entry (CE) at least 24 hours before the vessel arrives at Colombo Port. Failure to do so will result in mandatory physical examination of the cargo and a delay surcharge. This is a critical change that many smaller importers are still unaware of.
HS Code Accuracy Under the Microscope
ASYCUDA World's new AI-assisted tariff classification tool flags discrepancies between declared HS codes and invoice descriptions in real time. This means that errors which previously slipped through manual review are now caught instantly. Mis-declared goods face both re-assessment of duties and potential penalties under the Customs Ordinance.
Seahawk's Compliance Edge
Our documentation team is fully trained and certified on ASYCUDA World's latest build. We handle pre-arrival lodgement as a standard part of our clearance service, and our tariff specialists review every HS code before submission — keeping our clients free from penalty assessments and examination delays.
